What Will Reiki Do For Me?
Reiki is a wonderful tool for reducing stress, easing tension and facilitating relaxation. People have arrived for an appointment feeling edgy, anxious, overwhelmed or exhausted, and by the end of their session they feel more at peace with a greater sense of well-being. It is not a cure for a disease or illness, but can complement traditional medicine by helping the body create an environment that aids healing on all levels - physical, mental and emotional.
What is Reiki?
How Does It Work?
Reiki is a subtle and effective healing art that originated in Japan and is administered through the hands of a Reiki practitioner. It is not affiliated with or dependant on any religion or religious practice, therefore it is available to everyone.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words that when combined means "spiritually guided life force energy." This unseen energy - ki or qi - flows through all living things. It is believed that when this energy is strong and flowing freely we are able to be in a better state of mind and health; when it is low we are more likely to feel stress or unwell.
Our bodies have various centres and streams of energy known as Chakras and Nadis. (similar to the meridians in Traditional Chinese Medicine) These have a connection to our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual nature. These centres can become blocked or inactive. During a Reiki treatment, I use the Chakra system as a guide for the placement of my hands in directing the healing energy.
A session will have you resting comfortably and fully-clothed on my Reiki table. It is a non-invasive treatment where my hands will lightly touch or be just above various points of the body from head to toe. If you prefer there to be no touch at all, just let me know before we begin.
Despite where I place my hands, the healing energy will go where it is needed. I have had someone come in a very anxious state, fall asleep on my table and upon awakening tell me it was the most restful sleep she'd had in over a year.
Someone else, upon experiencing Reiki for the first time, was speechless at how much peace she felt. Everyone leaves feeling better than when they came. It’s truly something you need to experience for yourself to understand.
You may feel warmth, coolness, tingling sensations or nothing at all. It is not uncommon for people to fall asleep during their treatment. Let me know if you are unable to lay comfortably on the table as we can do the treatment seated on a chair.
60 minute treatment: $60
90 minute treatment: $90
How often will I need to come? You can look at this two ways. Once you've experienced what Reiki can do for you, I've found that you can sense when you need a treatment. However, with that being said..... often by the time we sense that, we really need it! You could also come on a regular basis as a pre-emptive treatment to keep everything in balance. The time between appointments may vary and is something that we can determine together.
Will I be there much longer than the treatment time? This can vary as well. I have found that in the beginning we may spend more time talking before or after the treatment about your needs or your experience. As time goes by this may change. I like to give you the time that you need. Especially if this is your first visit, please allow at least an extra hour of time.
I want you to have the best experience possible whenever you come and part of that is being comfortable with me as your Reiki Practitioner. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions that you may have.
Why I Became A Reiki Master.
My first experience with Reiki was in 2007 when I had a thirty minute treatment at a spa. She worked 'hands-off' and I vividly remember the sensation for a few moments of feeling like there was a whirlpool in my abdomen. At other times I would have sworn her hands were touching me - but they were not. It was a lovely experience.
I didn’t have a treatment again until 2012 when I was under a great deal of stress. I knew I needed 'something' and I asked for a treatment from a dear friend who is a Reiki Master.
I felt a sense of being more balanced and calm after the session and a month or so later I went to see her again. That summer I received my Reiki Level 1 certification from her.
I only did self-Reiki for a few years as I didn't have the confidence to do it for anyone else - at that point in my life I didn't have confidence in doing most things. It was my dear friend and fellow teacher Sarah, herself a Reiki Master, who encouraged me to continue on to the Master Level.
The power of the healing energy for me continues to be a great mystery. But I simply cannot deny what I experience and the experiences of those whom I have treated. I am merely the conduit for the healing force of my Reiki guides.
It can be challenging to understand how it feels and how it works... but this I do know - it helps to bring peace and tranquility to those I touch.
