There are many reasons to have a meditation practice. The benefits are many and although it can be difficult for people to understand, you simply feel 'different' than before you meditated - in a good way! 

Until they experience this phenomena for themselves, I find that people often think that it's just another underwhelming promise for the next best thing. A bit of an "Oh, that's nice for you, but not for me" mindset.

I always love it when around week 3 or 4 of a new class of students, they begin to tell me how meditation is impacting their life.

Hidden in the Heart

So......what hidden talents do you have lying dormant? Why haven't they been discovered yet? I can't say that I have the answer but in watching my husbands creative talents emerge over the last few years it has made me stop and think. As I marvel when he embarks on a new art form and ask "Did you know that you could do that?," his response is always an equally astonished "No!" 

I think we can become so conditioned as to what we can and can't do that we often have a pre-conceived notion as to what may be possible. I was introduced to the concept of 'domestication' when reading Ram Dass for my meditation teacher training.

Don't Be Afraid To Be A Beginner

As I finally sit down to write this first blog post I need to heed my own message - don't be afraid to be a beginner! Its not that I don't like to write; research and essays were one of my favourite things to do in my later university years. But getting started and actually doing more than just thinking about it.... that is often my challenge and sometimes I need a little courage to get started. 

When the lightbulb finally went off and I realized that meditation helped me feel better every day, I thought about teaching. I wanted to share the peace that it  brought me with other people who were suffering from the stress in their lives.
