A Lesson In Non-Attachment And Letting Go

Is it possible to love something and practice non-attachment at the same time?

Since 2006 our family has fostered puppies for the Lions Foundation Dog Guides of Canada. We usually get the puppies when they’re ready to leave their moms and we’ve had them for anywhere from nine to fifteen months.

We teach them to wear the Dog Guide vest, how to ride an escalator and elevator, how to behave themselves when they’re at the mall, in a grocery store or restaurant and generally becoming accustomed to being in different public places.

Once they go back to Dog Guide University, they’re familiar with these situations and the trainers are able to focus on working with them for their specific duties while fine-tuning what they’ve learned during their time with us.

We handle all of the puppy stages and just when they start to get easy we give them back.

Can You Slow Down?

So where do I start? It’s been an interesting month and in that time I haven’t written a blog post or sent a newsletter and for a while I wasn’t as engaged with social media.

Why?

Because I was honouring how I felt - both physically and emotionally. I have to admit that it’s only in the last few years I’ve learned to do that. It doesn’t mean I was ‘giving in’; it means I was paying attention.

The Beauty of Being Aware

A student asked me what it meant when I said that meditation increases our awareness.

My response was that it makes you more aware of everything around you and everything that you do. This is one of the most wonderful - and often unrecognized - benefits of meditation.

If you meditate for 30 minutes a day, it’s in the other 23 1/2 hours where the awareness and changes that meditation can bring shows up.

I’m in the process of changing my original business name, Moonset Meditation, to Pathways To Serenity With Glenda. 

I love teaching and my sole purpose in becoming a meditation teacher was to help people handle their stress.

Since I began teaching in 2015, this has grown to include teaching qigong, reiki, facilitating retreats, speaking engagements and coaching on tips and strategies to simply make life a little easier.
