How Do You Make Choices?

How Do You Make Choices?

There’s an old saying - ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going.’

While that may be good for some situations, I think it can also lay a heavy burden on someone’s shoulders. When I was struggling with what was happening in my previous business, phrases like that kept me going.

But that was definitely not a good thing. I ignored how I felt, didn’t accept the reality of what was happening and was letting this way of thinking control my life.

Results Aren't Always What We Planned

Results Aren't Always What We Planned

When we start to do, build, or plan something we all have certain expectations as to how it will turn out. After all, isn’t that part of the reason we’re doing it in the first place? However…..what happens when our expectations aren’t met? Is the creation then a complete failure or are you able to see it in another light?

When You Make A Choice - Is The Outcome Worth It?

When You Make A Choice - Is The Outcome Worth It?

Every day we make choices in our life. Some are easy and some are not.

At the end of my week in Costa Rica I reflected in this video on the outcome of a choice that I made when I travelled to Costa Rica for a Qigong retreat. What do you think? Would you have made the same choice?

A Lesson In Non-Attachment And Letting Go

A Lesson In Non-Attachment And Letting Go

Is it possible to love something and practice non-attachment at the same time?

Since 2006 our family has fostered puppies for the Lions Foundation Dog Guides of Canada. We usually get the puppies when they’re ready to leave their moms and we’ve had them for anywhere from nine to fifteen months.

We teach them to wear the Dog Guide vest, how to ride an escalator and elevator, how to behave themselves when they’re at the mall, in a grocery store or restaurant and generally becoming accustomed to being in different public places.

Once they go back to Dog Guide University, they’re familiar with these situations and the trainers are able to focus on working with them for their specific duties while fine-tuning what they’ve learned during their time with us.

We handle all of the puppy stages and just when they start to get easy we give them back.

Can You Slow Down?

Can You Slow Down?

So where do I start? It’s been an interesting month and in that time I haven’t written a blog post or sent a newsletter and for a while I wasn’t as engaged with social media.

Why?

Because I was honouring how I felt - both physically and emotionally. I have to admit that it’s only in the last few years I’ve learned to do that. It doesn’t mean I was ‘giving in’; it means I was paying attention.

The Beauty of Being Aware

The Beauty of Being Aware

A student asked me what it meant when I said that meditation increases our awareness.

My response was that it makes you more aware of everything around you and everything that you do. This is one of the most wonderful - and often unrecognized - benefits of meditation.

If you meditate for 30 minutes a day, it’s in the other 23 1/2 hours where the awareness and changes that meditation can bring shows up.

What's In A Name?

What's In A Name?

I’m in the process of changing my original business name, Moonset Meditation, to Pathways To Serenity With Glenda.

I love teaching and my sole purpose in becoming a meditation teacher was to help people handle their stress.

Since I began teaching in 2015, this has grown to include teaching qigong, reiki, facilitating retreats, speaking engagements and coaching on tips and strategies to simply make life a little easier.

But here’s one of the things I’ve learned along the way - you have to be open to make a change.

Front Row Living

Front Row Living

Have you ever read something, that just in a few lines can have a profound affect on your thinking? On your life?

I saw an image shared on Facebook by my friend Debbie. Perhaps you’ve seen it too. I’ve seen the same picture posted since then with slightly different wording, but it was this caption that grabbed me - and it still does.

When I saw it that day, February 11, 2013 I saved it, printed it and taped it to the wall beside my bathroom mirror. it’s still there.

Do You Feel Peaceful?

Do You Feel Peaceful?

Every morning after my meditation I read a passage from a book called Your True Home, The Everyday Wisdom of Thich Nhat Hanh, a beautiful gift from my friend and fellow meditation teacher Colleen.

When I read the following passage I knew that I wanted to share it with you.
